The second Aftertype theme has a working name, Azimuth, and about a week of work in it.

Northline is for publications that live on the web. Azimuth is for the other kind: the newsletter that happens to have a site. The email is the product, the site is the archive and the front door for new subscribers. Most creator-led publications on Ghost work like this, and most themes still treat the email as an afterthought.

So the priorities are flipped. The post page comes first, because that is where an email link lands. The subscribe box is not a footer element, it is part of the reading experience. The front page is a short pitch and a way in, not a magazine.

What exists: the front page, a latest issue block and a start-here list, plus the post page. What does not: the archive, the author page, dark mode and a real decision about the fonts.

The demo publication is called Azimuth as well, written by a fictional author named Ida Mercer, so I can see how the theme holds up with a real cadence of issues rather than lorem ipsum. Her newsletter does not exist. Her layout problems do.

I will post here as it moves. Screenshots, decisions, dead ends. When it ships it will be at [aftertype.studio](https://aftertype.studio/?ref=journal.aftertype.studio) next to Northline.
